Persimmon Patch

I'd been wanting to take some shots of this old Persimmon Patch for about two weeks now.

I finaly stopped and took a couple of quick shots.

The weather was changing quickly with lots of rain clouds

with a cold front moving in.

That gave it it's dark apperance. The temperature was

dropping as I clicked away.

To bring it out of it's shell

I added two layers of

Kim Klassen's Poetic texture.

One layer was set at "color burn" and

one layer was set at "overlay" in the

blending modes of Photoshop.

I am loving how the texture brings the large out of focus fruit

on the bottom right

to your attention with a canvas feel.

I wish all of you could have tasted

my mother-in-laws Persimmon Bread.

It was soooo good.

It is with much gratitude I share with you the

This week - white - is the

It looks so snowy.

I chased a white moth down

during a photo shoot.

They thought I was crazy.

Still in shades of white I processed this picture
for Tones on Tuesday

of the ducks flying with one of

Kim Klassen paper Collection.
I used the "multipy" Blending option.
I've got to learn more techniques in applying texture.

We spent this past Friday and Saturday in the Satilla River and

both days the evening skies were beautiful

displays of light.

I have to confess that I am guilty of
relying on the Aperature mode a little more than I should.
That was, until I started reading
Within the Frame: The Journey of Photographic Vision
by David duChemin.
I haven't finished it yet, but while out on the
river I tried to remember and use what I had read so far.
I enjoyed my camera so much more
and I had all the time in the world to experiment
while they fished. :)

After I imported the photo above in Photoshop

through Camera Raw

(enter the TONES),

I added a layer with the texture Phoebe

from Kim Klassen.

(enter the TEXTURE)

With that, I clicked on Blending Options

and chose "Multiply".

(enter the TIP)

I think it gives it a painterly canvas feel,
A painting you would find
hanging behind a huge overstuffed couch
in a elabrate scrolling frame.
(enter MY IMAGINATION)

Brown - Shades of Autumn Photo Challenge

This weekend "Brown" was all around.

We spent the most of the weekend in the Satilla river with the brown river water and the brown cypress trees on the banks.

It was so quiet and peaceful, no one else had the idea to head to the river during our cold snap.

Shoot and Edit : Week 44 : Macro

With no real "macro" lens I have to

rely on cropping and zooming in

with Lightroom and Photoshop.

I like this closer view of the the little drops of dew.

It's almost like strings of Christmas lights.

Wow, everybody will have their Christmas decorations

up before me. :)

Tones On TuWaa-nesday

I'm am running so behind,

I could blame it on the time change,

but that should have made me earlier,

so I think I will blame it on the nasty cold I caught

that kept my head hurting all weekend.

So here's my Tones On Tuesday photo

submitted on Wednesday.

I stopped and took this photo on the way home

from work one evening trying to

capture the clouds and moon.

This is one of the areas that was caught up

in the Georgia Swamp Fires we had this year.

The timber crews have already come and gone

taking all they could salvage

leaving the land bare.

Unlike most of my photos

I sent this one to Photoshop instead of the usual

Lightroom. I ran a couple of different actions on it, one

being from the Pioneer Woman,

but I still was not satisfied .

So I reached for a texture.

The one I used here is Phoebe by Kim Klassen

I think it gives it a little more of a smokey memory feel,
in rememberance of all of the woods that were destroyed
by the fires.

With the two tall scraggley pines they left,
it qualifies for Kim's Texture Tuesday
"The Number Two Edition"

Good To Wow : SOOC - Dewey Web

I had a couple of shots in mind for this challenge,

but I when walked out of the house this morning and saw this dewey web.

I am a sucker for dew.

It was cool and foggy, a perfect morning to spend exploring

with your camera. But I just had time to get

a couple of quick shots before I left for work.

This SOOC shot was made with my 50mm 1:1.8.

My favorite lens for getting sharp pictures in low light.

And I love depth of field.

My usual workflow for macro, is to get a shot

as sharp as I can with this lens then ZOOM in and crop.

You can see the dew drops in this SOOC shot

but I can't wait till I can ZOOM in and crop it. LOL

I love macro photography, but I am short on the lenses for it.

A while back I stumbled across this video tutorial on

"Extreme Macro"

using two regular lenses.

PURPLE - Shades of Autumn

Purple was found in the details.....

RED - Shades of Autumn

This weekend, most of the RED

came in a spray can.

DH completely re-fabricated the deck on his old bush hawg mower

and off he goes on his Farmall.

Shades of RED

are starting to show

Late in the evening needing to use my

50mm lens to get in all the light I could as fast as I could.

Ah, memories......

Coming in late in the evenings from

riding around in the woods.

Worried about nothing but

who ate the corn.

Riding 4-wheelers.

.........

Except when I was his age

it was 3-wheelers.

.........

Does that date me?

Ugh, I'm getting old.

Shades of Autumn - Orange with Tones

I found the orange Shades of Autumn in the marsh.

We went to see if we could throw the net and catch some shrimp

but the day turned "Crabby".

We caught more crabs than we did shrimp and fish.

Of course this is a cooked crab, but it

is a vibrant shade of orange.

Looking around on the dock,

I found this orange float.

Here is a fresh crab, just pulled in.

Do you know how you tell a lady crab from a man crab?

Why the lady always has her finger nails

painted, silly!

See how she has the most fashionable shade of deep red orange

and the crab above is just boring old blue.

And since it's "Tones on Tuesday" I'd like

to share this pic I

experimented on with Lightroom's Color Sliders.

But then I found the Black and White Sliders,

I like much better.

Week 41: SOOC to Edit, Pumpkins (edit)

On my edit for the pumpkin garland,

I just wanted to bring out the moss a little more.

I tweaked it a little in Lightroom 3

by increasing the exposure,

but if I went to far, it would come out grainy.

The differences are barely noticeable but still,

I like the edited one.

On a side note, I am trying to learn more about Lightroom 3 and streamlining bringing my photos to the blog. I knew there had to be an easier way to produce the side by side Dyptychs. I Googled and found a video on You Tube that shows you how to create your own drag and drop templates to "print to file" in order to put them on your blog. Here's the Link:

We haven't got our pumpkin yet

so I had to take pictures of the lighted

Halloween Pumpkin Garland

that decorates my daughters porch.

It's a string of little pumpkins

weaved with some moss to

give it a spooky feel.

Shades of Autumn - Yellow

I went looking for the Shades of Autumn.

Looking for Yellow.
The leaves around here are slow to change so
we needed to be creative.

I managed to chase down a squirrel getting

ready for winter......
(making a mental note:
I might want to take a hint from the squirrel)

then I found shades of yellow on the old shed........

I came across the yellow that lines the ditch on the way home.......

and walking back to the house, I spotted the flowers by the pond.

Shoot and Edit: Week 40 - Leaves EDIT

With this edit my mission was clear,

get that flashy looking light off of the sour orange tree

and make it look natural.

Lightroom 3 has spoiled me so that's where I do most of my ~~operating~~, uh editing.

After tweeking the WB, exposure, and the vibrance,
it still wasn't right.
So I went for my set of Presets from Andie Smith
I purchased couple of years ago.
They were called Pinkink Studios Road Trip Presets.
I used "Houston".
I tried to find a link to them but all of the Pink Ink Studios and Andie Smith
stores are down.
I love this set of Presets, it ranges from Black and White to
Sepia to Vintage, covering the whole
country with Austin, Washington DC and even a
preset for Savannah (my favorite).

Being the geeky person I am,

after this edit, I couldn't help but try this Before/After Photo MouseOver Tutorial

I found over at

The Coffee Shop Blog.

Mouse over and give it a try.

*for some reason mine's not working right.
I hope to have it working soon.
UPDATE: I finaly got it working but I don't know what fixed it
or I would share all I can say is keep fiddling with it. LOL

A couple of notes on using the "Mouse Over" code:

*If you use Picasa as your hosting site for you pictures, before you get the link, don't forget to check the "Image only (no link)" box and be sure to select the size you want to show up on your blog. If you don't, you'll end up with a link to a thumb nail and Blogger will blow it up and photo will be all blurry. (yes, this happened to me)

That's just some stuff you might already know but if I don't write it down I will forget. :)

The Old and The New

Plowing for the greens patch.

These days you can't mow the grass,

drive to town, or plow

without listening to an IPOD.

I don't think FarmAll looked far

enough into the future to realize that

along with a PTO clutch

they needed to install an

IPOD hook up. LOL

Photo's were processed in

Lightroom 3 and

then sent to Photoshop CS3

to use one of Coffeshops's Web boards.

Always check your ISO beforeshooting!!!
I failed to check mine which gave me very little to work with in Lightroom without getting too grainy.

Shoot and Edit Weekly Challenge - Leaves

Love the idea of this Photography Challenge

I found while trolling Pinterest.

First, you post a photo shot straight out of the camera, no adjustment.

Then later that week there will be a tutorial to

follow to improve your pic.

The goal: Shoot the best photo you can

straight from the camera,

then learn new ways to process.

I wish I had found this challenge earlier.

The theme this week is LEAVES.

The shot I chose for this week is a pic

I took out at the farm of the sour orange tree.

I love the mix of the thorns, fruit and leaves

I fiddled with the aperture and used the flash

to get the right combination

to keep the barn and evening sun in the background

without

losing the sour oranges and thorns

out of the shadows.

How not to Shoot the Super Moon

This is one of the first shots I took of the Moon Saturday night. I was so frustrated that I couldn't get the any settings right so I could get the blue coolness of the moon. I sure did not want a blazing ball of fire that set the woods on fire.

So I went back to the house looked up "Super moon" on flickr and took down the settings that seemed to work for the type of shot I wanted. Everything was the opposite of what I figured.

*ISO at 100 or 200, not 800
*fstop at around 11 not 4
*shuter speed 1/125, fast because the moon does move fast when your trying to photograph it, not 1".

Thank you to all that share their photos and settings on flickr I got closer to what I wanted in the shot.

Real Live Little Princess

In September I got to take a few pics of a real live little Princess that lives down the road, Jamie. It was her first Beauty Padgent and she floated like a butterfly in her pretty little dress.

Website Photo Shoot

Needing to gather photos for a website design project, my brother and I spent Friday morning on a photo hunt at some of the nicest homes in St.Marys.

Beautiful homes with beautiful views. Until then, I didn't know such homes were in this area.
